On the fly; On the go; Along the way
Maite pregunta en la zona de propuestas una traducción posible para la expresión “sobre la marcha”. Esta expresión se usa para indicar que se hacen las cosas como van llegando, es decir que no requiere una preparación previa y que se puede manejar fácilmente.
En realidad “sobre la marcha”, puede traducirse al inglés de tres formas distintas, según el significado que tome:
- On the go: cuando realizas una tarea de forma rápida mientras te diriges a hacer otra tarea.
- Along the way: cuando realizas una tarea “por el camino”.
- On the fly: cuando realizas una tarea sin ningún tipo de planificación. También se puede traducir como: “al vuelo”.
“On the fly” is not exactly the same as “on the go” or “along the way”. “On th fly” means to do or make something without any planning beforehand at the moment that it is needed, “on the go” means to do something quickly while you are on your way to do something else, and “along the way” can refer to something that happened or something you did while you were on some kind of journey.
The way that you used “On the fly” in your example is incorrect, because Peter is planning to write. You could use one of the other two expressions in its place.
