“On the fly” is not exactly the same as “on the go” or “along the way”. “On th fly” means to do or make something without any planning beforehand at the moment that it is needed, “on the go” means to do something quickly while you are on your way to do something else, and “along the way” can refer to something that happened or something you did while you were on some kind of journey.

The way that you used “On the fly” in your example is incorrect, because Peter is planning to write. You could use one of the other two expressions in its place.

If someone hadn’t prepared a presentation beforehand but only thought of what to say during the presentation, he would be making it up “on the fly.”

Realmente no se dice “to be eye to eye”, por lo menos no por aquí en Reino Unido que yo sepa. Pero sí se puede decir “to see eye to eye”, que significa ‘estar de acuerdo’ con alguien. Se usa en el negativo cuando uno no se lleva bastante bien con el otro o cuando hay desacuerdos: ‘we don’t see eye to eye’.

(Espero que me exprese bastante bien.)
